The Alabama A&M University baseball team lost to Bethune-Cookman, 15-5, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game on April 18 at Sliwa Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida.
This result matters for both teams as it affects their standings within the conference. Bethune-Cookman improved its record to 28-11 overall and 14-3 in the SWAC, while Alabama A&M dropped to 8-33 overall and 2-15 in conference play.
Bethune-Cookman started strong with six runs in the first inning. Alabama A&M responded by sending nine batters to the plate in the second inning. KJ Stanfield singled and advanced on an AJ Anderson double before Tervell Johnson drove him home. Miles Jackson then hit a bases-clearing double and later scored on a wild pitch, narrowing the gap to one run.
Despite this rally, Bethune-Cookman added three more runs in the bottom of the second and continued scoring throughout the game. Evan Hurlburt took the loss for Alabama A&M after giving up nine runs on five hits over less than two innings. Tanner Boccabello earned his fifth win of the season for Bethune-Cookman.
Alabama A&M will conclude its weekend series against Bethune-Cookman on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon Central Time at Sliwa Stadium.
