For the first time in its history, Alabama A&M University’s baseball team will compete against an international opponent. The Bulldogs are set to participate in the Global Baseball Series, as announced during a press conference at Toyota Field.

The event is a collaborative effort between the Rocket City Trash Pandas, Toyota Red Cruisers—a corporate baseball team from Japan—Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Organizers describe the series as a cultural exchange designed to strengthen ties between Japan and North Alabama.

Alabama A&M will begin the three-day exhibition series on Monday, March 30, facing the TOYOTA Red Cruisers at Toyota Field. The following days will feature matchups between the Rocket City Trash Pandas and both the University of Alabama Huntsville and the TOYOTA Red Cruisers.

“Alabama A&M baseball is excited about this opportunity and honored to be a part of the Global Baseball Series,” said AAMU head coach Louis Whitlow. “As a new era starts with Bulldog Baseball, our goal is to expose our student-athletes at the highest level and this partnership with the Rocket City Trash Pandas is just the beginning.”

All games are scheduled for a 6:35 pm start time, with gates opening at 5:30 pm. Details regarding ticket sales will be provided later.

The TOYOTA Red Cruisers serve as Toyota Motor Corporation’s official corporate baseball team in Japan’s industrial league system. The team has produced athletes who have competed internationally—including appearances at events such as the World Baseball Classic and Olympic Games—and incorporates advanced training technologies developed by Toyota Research Institute. Ichiro Suzuki was named Special Assistant to Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda in 2024; his involvement aims to further enhance player development within the organization.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama has been operating in Huntsville for 25 years, supplying nearly half of all Toyota engines assembled in North America. The facility has contributed thousands of jobs locally and donated more than $24 million to non-profit organizations in support of community initiatives.
