The Alabama A&M University men’s basketball team secured a 73–69 win over Alabama State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game during the Bridge Builder Classic at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama. The Bulldogs improved their season record to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in SWAC play.
The contest saw frequent lead changes, with both teams exchanging the advantage 17 times and tying on 11 occasions. In the closing moments, Alabama A&M capitalized at the free-throw line to secure the victory.
Alabama State started strong with an early run, but Alabama A&M responded through defensive pressure and fast-break opportunities. Koron Davis sparked momentum for the Bulldogs with a dunk early in the first half. Sami Pissis tied the game shortly after with a three-pointer following a turnover. Kintavious Dozier contributed back-to-back layups to help give his team an edge before halftime, where Alabama A&M led by one point.
The second half continued in similar fashion as both teams traded baskets. After briefly losing the lead, Pissis helped regain it for Alabama A&M with free throws. Dozier added a key three-pointer midway through the period, while Pissis and Davis contributed critical points down the stretch.
With less than 20 seconds left and the score tied at 69, Pissis scored on a driving layup and converted a free throw to give his team an advantage. Davis then made four consecutive free throws after forcing a turnover to seal the win for Alabama A&M.
Sami Pissis led all scorers with 22 points along with four assists and four steals. Kintavious Dozier finished with 19 points while Koron Davis added 12 points, making eight of ten attempts from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs shot nearly 83% from the line overall and forced 20 turnovers from their opponents.
Alabama A&M will continue its road trip Saturday against Texas Southern at H&PE Arena. The game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off and will be streamed on HBCU GO.
