The Alabama A&M University men’s basketball team lost a close game to Alcorn State, 64–62, on Saturday afternoon at the AAMU Event Center. The Bulldogs had a double-digit lead in the second half but could not hold off a late comeback by the Braves in this Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup.
Alabama A&M, now with an 8-8 overall record and 1-2 in conference play, started strong by forcing turnovers and quickly jumping out to a 10–0 run. Bilal Abdur-Rahman scored in transition and Koron Davis added a dunk following a steal during this early stretch.
Alcorn State, who entered the contest with only two wins on the season, responded with outside shooting but trailed 34–29 at halftime as Davis continued to contribute on both ends of the floor.
In the second half, Davis extended Alabama A&M’s lead with key baskets and Kintavious Dozier converted points off turnovers. The Bulldogs led by as many as eleven after Dozier’s fast-break layup made it 46–35 with just under sixteen minutes left.
Despite controlling the paint and holding an advantage in second-chance points for much of the game, Alabama A&M saw its lead slip away. Alcorn State gradually closed the gap using free throws and three-point shots. With just over nine minutes remaining, Jameel Morris tied the game for Alcorn State before Sami Pissis and Davis helped restore a brief five-point cushion for Alabama A&M.
The final minutes were closely contested. Morris gave Alcorn State their first lead since early in the game, but Dozier hit a three-pointer and added free throws to tie things up at 62 apiece inside two minutes left. On their next possession, Alcorn State scored inside to take back a two-point edge. The Bulldogs had one last chance but missed a contested three-pointer at the buzzer.
Davis finished as Alabama A&M’s top scorer with 17 points and seven rebounds; P.J. Eason contributed 11 points and six rebounds; Dozier tallied ten points—nine coming after halftime—as Alabama A&M outscored Alcorn State in both paint scoring (32–28) and second-chance opportunities (12–6). However, Alcorn State’s accuracy from the free-throw line was decisive.
Jameel Morris led all scorers for Alcorn State with 21 points along with eight rebounds and four assists. Tycen McDaniels and Omari Hamilton each scored twelve points for the visitors.
Alabama A&M will complete its homestand against Jackson State on Monday at 7 p.m., with coverage available via SWAC TV from the AAMU Event Center.
