The Alabama A&M University men’s basketball team is set to face off against rival Alabama State in the annual Bridge Builder Classic on Monday. The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game will take place at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama, with tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m. The game will be available for streaming on SWAC TV.
Alabama A&M comes into the matchup following a 100-91 win over Jackson State last Monday. This marked the first time since 2006 that the Bulldogs scored 100 points against a SWAC opponent.
Alabama State recently ended a two-game losing streak by defeating Alcorn State 81-66 at home.
Currently, Alabama A&M averages just over 70 points per game and has a shooting percentage of 42.2 percent from the field. Kintavious Dozier leads three Bulldogs players scoring in double figures with an average of 15.5 points per game. Koron Davis and Sami Pissis are averaging 12.9 and 11.7 points respectively.
The Bulldogs lead the conference in several statistical categories, including field goal percentage defense, rebound margin, defensive rebounds per game, total rebounds per game, scoring defense, three-point percentage defense, and turnovers per game. PJ Eason leads the league in offensive rebounds per game and ranks 58th nationally in this category.
On the other side, Alabama State is shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and averages 75.2 points per game. Asjon Anderson is their top scorer with an average of 18.4 points along with 3.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Micah Simpson contributes with averages of 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
Alabama State leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game as well; Jerquarius Stanbeck is ranked among national leaders—20th in blocks and 22nd in blocks per game.
This meeting marks the 96th between these programs; Alabama State holds a historical advantage with a record of 66 wins to Alabama A&M’s 29 victories in the series. The Hornets have won three out of their last four games against the Bulldogs; Alabama A&M’s most recent win came in Huntsville during the year 2024 by a score of 58-53.
