The Alabama A&M University Choir has released a 150th Anniversary album, now available on major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iHeart, and TIDAL. The album commemorates the university’s 150 years of history, highlighting its traditions of faith, resilience, scholarship, and song.
Directed by Dr. Horace Carney, the choir has long served as a cultural ambassador for Alabama A&M University (AAMU), preserving African American musical heritage through performances both on campus and at national venues. The new album continues this tradition with a selection of music rooted in Black sacred traditions that have shaped the choral excellence of historically Black colleges and universities.
The recording features traditional spirituals such as “Precious Lord,” “If I Got My Ticket,” and “More Abundantly.” These selections reflect themes of faith and perseverance that have been central to the university’s story since its founding.
According to the release, “As the University turns the page into its next 150 years, this album stands as a permanent artifact of the sound of our sesquicentennial—a musical time capsule preserving the spirit, faith, and voices that defined this historic year.”
A limited vinyl edition is expected to be released later this year.
