Alabama A&M University is organizing an Etiquette Dining Workshop for its students on March 10. The event will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Knight Reception Hall. Dr. Ethel Jones, who serves as chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, will lead the workshop.
The session aims to help students improve their professional skills before events such as Tea on the Hill and future career opportunities. It will provide instruction on how to manage a formal meal with confidence and professionalism.
Students participating in the workshop will experience a five-course dining setting where they can learn about business dining basics. Topics include making proper introductions, understanding table conversation etiquette, using correct utensils and glasses, and following napkin protocols.
Additional parts of the workshop will cover ordering food appropriately, handling different courses like bread service, soup, salad, and dessert. There will also be guidance on business meal etiquette such as phone usage at the table, maintaining good posture, and pacing during meals.
The workshop includes practical advice for networking during meals. Students will learn how to start conversations, listen attentively, and end discussions politely—skills useful for interviews or professional dinners.
Participation is open to both male and female students who are required to wear business attire. Advance registration is encouraged for those interested in attending.
