Coach Tommy Tuberville, a U.S. Senator from Alabama, posted several statements on his social media account in early August 2025 calling for the removal of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and expressing strong opinions about current economic policy.

On August 3, 2025, Tuberville wrote: “It is BEYOND ridiculous that Jerome Powell still has a job. The economy is BOOMING under @POTUS, yet ‘Too Late Jay’ refuses to cut rates. FJP: FIRE JEROME POWELL”.

The following day, on August 4, he reiterated his stance with another post stating: “Today’s a great day to fire Jerome Powell.”

Later that same day, Tuberville posted a brief message: “Lock ‘em up.”

Jerome Powell has served as the Chair of the Federal Reserve since 2018. The role of the Federal Reserve includes setting monetary policy, such as interest rates, to influence economic growth and inflation in the United States. Calls for changes in leadership at the Federal Reserve have occurred periodically during times of debate over monetary policy direction.

Tuberville’s remarks come amid ongoing public discussions regarding interest rate policies and their impact on the broader economy.
