FOIA Request to Calhoun Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at the Huntsville Leader have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Calhoun Community College. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists that reveal the number of current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If individual names are protected under privacy laws, we have requested that the information be provided in aggregate form. Additionally, we seek information about scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Furthermore, we have requested details about any scholarships linked to the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Moreover, our inquiry extends to understanding how Calhoun Community College monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information. This aspect is crucial for ensuring that educational institutions maintain robust security measures while fostering an environment conducive to learning and innovation.

This request is made not only on behalf of our publication but also in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As a media organization dedicated to uncovering truths and holding public institutions accountable, access to such records is vital for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We believe this transparency will ultimately serve the public interest by shedding light on institutional practices and policies.

We await a response from Calhoun Community College and hope for a timely release of the requested information.
