With the school year winding down, many parents are already dreading the summer camp search. Finding quality, affordable care can be a challenge. That’s why Huntsville Parks & Recreation is offering several options through its community centers.
With Huntsville Parks & Recreation’s all-day summer camps, parents and guardians can rest easy knowing their child will be cared for in a fun, safe environment, supervised by professional recreation staff. The educational and recreational activities, along with field trips, give children more than just a place to spend the day. They also allow kids to grow and learn, while making friends and discovering new interests.
City Recreation Superintendent Dorianne Johnson said Parks & Recreation staff is gearing up to provide a variety of summer fun for Huntsville’s youth.
“We have included weekly themes like Fun in the Sun, the Great Outdoors and Space Adventures,” she said. “Special activities will go along with each theme.”
The all-day summer camps will take place at five locations: Cavalry Hill Community Center, Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center, Brahan Spring Recreation Center, Fern Bell Recreation Center and Mark Russell Recreation Center.
New this summer, Huntsville Parks & Recreation is also offering several specialty camps. These one-week, half-day options include STEM, Fundamental Sports and Little Picasso Art camps.
“The specialty camps focus on introducing youth to these areas of focus, while providing an enjoyable experience,” Johnson said.
The all-day summer camps are open to children ages 5-12 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Dates vary by location. The exception is the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center, which will be open to children ages 6-12. The cost to attend per week is $50, with discounted sibling rates available.
