Alabama A&M 2021-22 Season in Review: Women’s Indoor Track & Field

With the close of the 2021-22 campaign, the Alabama A&M Sports Information Office is producing a Season in Review for each of the program's 16 sports from the past year.

That series began with the fall season before progressing to the winter and spring campaigns. Each week reviews will be released on Mondays and Wednesdays until concluding with the final spring sport on Monday, July 18 and a Department Season in Review on Wednesday, July 20. Today we will take a look back at the 2021-22 Women's Indoor Track & Field season.

2021-22 Men's Indoor Track & Field

2021-22 Season in Review

  • Competed in four meets during the season.
  • The distance medley relay delivered a strong performance at the 2022 SWAC Championships, finishing fifth in a time of 13:10.47.
  • Also competed at Samford Open (1/22), Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational (2/4) and Samford's Bulldog Open (2/12).
Individual Achievements/Honors

  • Junior Aneisha Ingram (Frankfield, Jamaica) delivered a strong outing at the SWAC Championships, placing 7-of-22 in the 800-meters with a time of 2:20.17 before teaming up with freshman De'Ajene Johnson (Detroit, Mich.), senior Shanique Masters (St. Catherine, Jamaica) and freshman Taylor Wingo for a fifth place finish in the distance medley, crossing the line in 13:10.47.
  • Wingo placed 9-of-22 in the 800-meters with a time of 2:21.67 at the SWAC Championships.
  • Graduate Jairyn Russell (Birmingham, Ala.) delivered strong performances all season long, starting at the Samford Open with a 13-of-59 finish in the 60-meters (8:09). She would then place 22-of-76 in a time of 7.90 at the Buccaneer Invitational.
  • Johnson had key performances that began at East Tennessee when she placed 24-of-55 in a time of 1:02.94 before leading AAMU at the Bulldog Open with a 28-of-53 showing with a time of 2:27.56 in the 800-meters.
  • Briana Cox represented AAMU in the area of field events, placing 22-of-41 with a distance of 13.12 meters at the Bulldog Open before placing 12th at the SWAC Championships (14.22m).
  • Masters would complete in three meets, starting off with an 18-of-55 finish in the 400-meters (1:02.39) at the Buccaneer Invitational before placing 14-of-22 in the 800-meters at the  SWAC Championships (2:25.99)
