Former UAH women's soccer goalkeeper Iris Gunnarsdottir has been called up to the Icelandic national team for the 2022 UEFA Women's European Championships.
Iceland is a member of Group D at the tournament along with the national teams of France, Belgium, and Italy.
Iceland opened their tournament run on Sunday, earning a 1-1 draw with Belgium, and currently sit tied for second place in the group alongside the Belgians. France coasted to a 5-1 victory over the Italians in their first match to currently sit atop of the Group D table.
Group play will continue for Iceland with an 11:00 a.m. contest against Italy on Thursday before wrapping up group stage play in a meeting with France on Monday at 2:00 p.m. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout phase.
UEFA Women's EURO 2022 began on July 6 and will be played to July 31 in the host country of England. 16 total nations make up the tournament field and more information can be found here on the official website.
Gunnarsdottir played with the Under-19 and Under-23 Icelandic national teams and holds UAH records for saves, goalkeeper matches played, and goalkeeper minutes played after competing for the Chargers from 2011-2013.
