UAH Drops Match to Texas A&M International, Tops Catawba on Saturday

The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team continued play at the Anderson Invitational on Friday with a 3-1 loss to Texas A&M International prior to a 3-1 victory over Catawba. UAH now sits at 4-3 in 2022.

The Chargers wrap up their time in the Palmetto State on Saturday with a matchup against host Anderson at 10:30 a.m. CT.

TAMIU 3, UAH 1 (21-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-18)

Texas A&M International pulled ahead early in the match with back-to-back wins in the first and second by scores of 25-21 and 25-15, respectively.

The Chargers offense rebounded with a .353 hitting percentage on 15 kills in the third set to win 25-21, before the Dustdevils took the fourth 25-18 to win the match.

UAH featured three players with double-digit kills in the morning matchup, led by Caroline Moyer with 11 successful swats and a team-high .370 hitting percentage.

Kiara Hill and Gracie McGee both put up 10 kills in the contest to rank tied for second on the team, with Hill boasting a .350 hitting percentage for the match.

Colby Charland had a season-best performance with 31 assists and nearly achieved a double-double with eight digs defensively.

Shayla Libby pulled in 15 digs to lead the Chargers defense, followed by Hailey Holshouser with 11 scoops against TAMIU.

UAH's defense also featured 10 total blocks, with Zharia Hubbard leading the way with five blocks in the match.

UAH 3, CC 0 (25-19, 28-26, 23-25, 25-17)

After opening the contest with a 25-19 win over Catawba, UAH was resilient to win the second frame 28-26 for a 2-0 lead.

The Chargers were edged in the third 25-23, before a dominant 25-17 win in the fourth capped off the four-set win to wrap up Friday action for UAH.

Moyer had another stellar offensive performance in the second match of the day, as the freshman posted a team-high 13 kills on a .407 hitting percentage. She also added seven digs.

Paris Morris rated second on the roster with eight successful swats and a .348 swing rate, while Hubbard boasted a team-best .500 hitting percentage on six kills. Hubbard additionally led the team with five total blocks.

UAH's defense featured four players with seven digs or more, paced by Libby with a team-high 10 scoops to go along with two service aces.
