UAH Drops Season-Opener at Saint Leo on Friday

The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team started off the 2022-23 campaign by falling to Saint Leo on the road by a score of 68-54 on Friday evening in nonconference action. UAH dips to 0-1, while SLU improves to 1-0.
 
UAH was led by Alexis Woods overall in the contest with the senior generating a team-high 11 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes on the court.
 
Freshman Andie Flatgard had a strong first collegiate game with a team-high 36 minutes and 11 points, while adding two rebounds and two assists.
 
Both Olivia Howard and Madie Krieger played 30 minutes in the contest to rate tied for second on the team, with Howard putting up eight points to rate third on the roster.
 
The first two quarters were tightly contested with Saint Leo holding a 30-24 lead after the half, as Woods scored all 11 of her points during the opening half.
 
Saint Leo would extend its lead in the third by outpacing UAH 21-13 in the stanza for a 51-37 advantage through 30 minutes of play. Both sides would score 17 points apiece in the fourth as SLU took the nonconference tilt 68-54.
 
This was the sixth-ever matchup between UAH and Saint Leo.
 
The Chargers are back in action at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday for another regional matchup, as UAH takes on Florida Southern in St. Leo, Florida, to wrap up the weekend.
