UAH Opens Weekend Road Trip with Win at Delta State

 The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team picked up a 65-56 road win over Delta State on Friday night in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 9-2 (5-1 GSC), while DSU slides to 1-8 (1-6 GSC).
 
Sophomore Chaney Johnson led all Chargers with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor to go along with a roster-best eight rebounds and one block.
 
Both Luke Burnett and Max Shulman recorded 13 points in the victory, with Shulman going 5-for-6 from the field in addition to a team-high four steals against the Statesmen.
 
Jack Kostel played a team-high 36 minutes against DSU with five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
 
UAH shot 48.1 percent (26-54) overall on Friday night to go along with 40.9 percent (9-22) on three-pointers. The Chargers defense also limited the Statesmen to 37.3 percent (19-51) shooting on the night.
 
The Blue & White additionally outscored Delta State 28-8 in the paint in the matchup.
 
The opening half was tightly contested between the Chargers and Statesmen as the lead would change hands nine times over initial 20 minutes of action on Friday night.
 
UAH benefitted from a 18-10 run over the final 10 minutes of play in the first half to hold the lead over Delta State by a score of 37-31 at halftime. Shulman notched 11 of his 13 points on the night to lead the Chargers in the first half.
 
Delta State rallied in the second half to cut UAH's lead to 46-45 with 9:04 remaining, but the Chargers rebounded with a 19-11 run to close out the 65-56 win on Friday night.
 
UAH returns to action at Mississippi College on Sunday with a 4 p.m. matchup.
