The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on the road at Auburn Montgomery by a final score of 77-73 on Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. UAH slides to 3-14 (3-10 GSC), while AUM improves to 5-12 (4-9 GSC).
Junior Alaina Taylor had a career-best performance in Saturday's matchup with a team-high 20 points over 33 minutes on the floor. The Athens, Alabama, native also tied for the team lead with two steals while shooting 5-for-11 from the floor and 7-for-8 on free throws.
Haley Nichols generated her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and a roster-leading 11 rebounds.
Andie Flatgard played a team-high 34 minutes on Saturday, as she rated second on the squad with 15 points and six rebounds.
Overall against AUM, UAH shot 44.4 percent (24-54) from the field, including a game-high 62.5 (10-16) percent in the fourth quarter. The Chargers held the edge over the Warhawks in rebounds (36-34), points in the paint (36-32), and second-chance points (14-6).
Auburn Montgomery controlled the pace for much of the first half to lead 36-24 after 20 minutes of play, but the Chargers proceeded out outpace the Warhawks 23-18 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 54-47.
A fast-paced fourth quarter allowed the Chargers to slim AUM's lead to 75-73 on one of Taylor's three, three-pointers with 33 seconds remaining, but the Warhawks hung on to win 77-73 on Saturday.
UAH is back in action next week at home with matchups against Montevallo on Wednesday and West Alabama on Saturday.
