HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team hosts West Georgia in a pivotal Gulf South Conference matchup on Wednesday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall at 7:30 p.m.
General admission attendance is free this regular season, courtesy of Bill Penney Toyota. Single game tickets for reserved seating are also available.
UAH will additionally be celebrating 4.0 Night at Spragins Hall during halftime of the men's game, and any UAH student-athlete who earned a 4.0 GPA over the past year will be honored.
The Chargers have clinched a spot in the upcoming GSC tournament, as the squad has a 19-6 overall record and a 14-5 mark in league games this season after a 71-66 victory over Mississippi College on Saturday.
UAH is currently third in the conference standings with five games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams in the GSC will host the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Sophomore Chaney Johnson became the 31st Charger in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points this past week, as he currently has 1,038 points entering Wednesday's matchup. The Alabaster, Alabama, native additionally leads the Chargers this season with 16.0 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Johnson is one of three UAH players to achieve 1,000 points in his career, joining Max Shulman at 1,385 points and Hunter Vick with 1,118 points. The majority of Vick's career points came from his time at Tennessee Tech and Union.
Shulman also recorded a career feat recently, becoming the program's career three-pointers made with 317 in his time as a Charger.
West Georgia is currently in a two-way tie for first place in the GSC standings with a 15-4 league record, with the Wolves holding a 16-5 overall record in 2022-23. UWG's offense is led by Michael Zabetakis with 19.2 points per game, as the Wolves average 76.2 points per game this season.
UAH is 37-27 all-time against West Georgia in a series that dates back to 1978. The Chargers have won eight straight games against the Wolves entering Wednesday.
After Wednesday's matchup, UAH looks ahead to the final road trip of the regular season with visits to Union next Thursday and Christian Brothers next Saturday.
