Week ending Jan. 21: 13 businesses registered in cities found in Madison County

There were 13 businesses that registered in cities within Madison County in the week ending Jan. 21, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is seven percent less than the week before, when 14 businesses were registered.

Owens Cross Roads registered the most businesses in Madison County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
