This September, Congressman Dale W. Strong (AL-05) will host a 50th anniversary pinning ceremony for Vietnam Era War veterans residing in Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District. The event aims to honor those who served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War to ensure freedom would prevail over the evils of communism. This ceremony will honor these courageous Americans as heroes who risked their lives in defense of freedom,” said Congressman Strong.
The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act approved a program to honor Vietnam War veterans and other members of the Armed Forces. Any Vietnam veteran living in Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District who served between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, is eligible for a commemorative pin and congressional recognition. The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that there are currently 6.4 million living Vietnam veterans and nine million families of those who served during this period.
“My office is proud to participate in the Vietnam Veterans 50th Anniversary Pin Program. North Alabama has a large veteran population, and this is an opportunity to let us honor those who bravely served our nation with a small gift of gratitude for their sacrifice,” said Congressman Strong.
