U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and 26 Republican colleagues have introduced a resolution to designate October 5-11, 2025, as “Religious Education Week.” The resolution aims to highlight the significance of religion in American society and to recognize the contributions of schools, churches, and other organizations that provide religious education to students across the country.

Senator Tuberville, who serves as Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee on Education and the American Family, has previously cosponsored similar resolutions in 2023 and 2024. He is known for his advocacy of school choice and has expressed support for diverse educational options.

“As Republicans, we believe that parents, not the government, should be in charge of a child’s education,” said Sen. Tuberville. “Our country was rooted in Judeo-Christian values, and private religious schools are a great option for many Alabamians. There’s a myth out there that our Founders wanted to keep God out of the public square. That just isn’t true. This country was built on love of God, love of country, and love of family.”

Other senators joining Tuberville in cosponsoring the resolution include Jim Banks (R-IN), John Barrasso (R-WY), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Katie Britt (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), John Cornyn (R-TX), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Mike Crapo (R-ID), John Curtis (R-UT), Steve Daines (R-MT), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), John Kennedy (R-LA), James Lankford (R-OK), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Ashley Moody (R-FL), James Risch (R-ID), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Rick Scott (R-FL), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Todd Young (R-IN).

The resolution has received endorsements from several organizations, including the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty, Agudath Israel of America, Coalition for Jewish Values, Foundation for American Christian Education, School Time Bible Ministries, Association of Christian Schools International, and Catholic Education Partners Inc.

Senator Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging Committees.
