U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has joined U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in co-sponsoring the Chloe Cole Act, a bill aimed at banning gender transition surgeries and related medical interventions for minors. The proposed legislation would also provide legal recourse for individuals who have undergone such procedures as minors and later detransitioned.

The bill is named after Chloe Cole, who underwent a double mastectomy at age 15 and later decided to detransition. She has since become an advocate against gender transition procedures for minors.

“Thousands of America’s children have fallen prey to the radical left’s woke gender ideology. Allowing our young children whose brains aren’t even fully developed to make life-altering decisions isn’t only dangerous, but it’s pure insanity,” said Sen. Tuberville. “American families have been lied to for far too long—these surgeries cause irreversible harm. This sick attack on our children ends now with President Trump and his team. I’m proud to join Sen. Blackburn in cosponsoring this legislation to stop the abuse of America’s children and enforce the President’s pro-family agenda.”

Senator Blackburn stated, “No child should be pushed into irreversible chemical and surgical mutilation under the guise of so-called ‘gender-affirming care.’ The Chloe Cole Act would put a stop to this barbaric abuse of children and give those who have suffered the consequences of these harmful procedures the chance to fight back.”

Other Senate co-sponsors include Ted Budd (R-NC), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ashley Moody (R-FL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Tim Sheehy (R-MT), and Rick Scott (R-FL). In the House of Representatives, Congressman Bob Onder (R-MO-03) is leading similar efforts.

The U.S. Department of Justice sent this legislative proposal to Congress in September, with Attorney General Pam Bondi expressing support for the measure. Organizations such as American Principles Project and Independent Women’s Forum have also endorsed the bill.

According to background information provided by Tuberville’s office, the Chloe Cole Act seeks to codify an executive order from former President Trump that ended federal support for gender transition treatments among minors.

Senator Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP), and Aging.
