U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has recognized U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant Antonio Parker of Montgomery as the February “Veteran of the Month.” The announcement was made in a video released by Tuberville’s office, where he highlighted Parker’s background and contributions.

“I often say, ‘This country owes you one thing — and that’s an opportunity.’ But it’s up to you what you do with that opportunity. No one demonstrates making the most of this opportunity better than Master Gunnery Sergeant Antonio Parker of Montgomery,” Tuberville said.

He detailed Parker’s early life in Southern Virginia, emphasizing the values instilled by his mother and his promise to her to pursue education. “She practiced what she preached by tutoring those who couldn’t read and serving at the local church. Anthonio promised her that he would get his own education. And in 1981— one week after graduating high school — Antonio enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. What began as a way to pay for a college education and keep his promise to his mother, led Antonio to 28 years of military service, including more than ten deployments. During this time, he earned five degrees focusing on business and leadership.”

After retiring from military service in 2009, Parker became involved in community initiatives around Montgomery, organizing health events such as the “Fit-4-Life” 5k race with proceeds supporting educational needs.

“It’s no wonder that such an extraordinary person is nicknamed ‘Superman’ by his colleague, Officer Benjamin Duffy, who says that Antonio is, ‘truly an exceptional man, great patriot, and an even better Alabamian!’ It’s my honor to recognize Antonio Parker as the ‘February Veteran of the Month,’” Tuberville stated.
