UAH Completes Comeback in Overtime Victory at UWA Monday

The No. 15 University of Alabama in Huntsville men’s basketball team won in come-from-behind fashion on the road at West Alabama by a final score of 69-67 in overtime in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 6-2 (2-1 GSC), while UWA slides to 5-1 (2-1 GSC).
 
Chaney Johnson led the Chargers to the victory on Monday with a team-best 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor to go along with a roster-leading eight rebounds and three steals.
 
Max Shulman played a roster-high 41 minutes in the matchup while rating second on the team with six rebounds.
 
Both CJ Williamson and Jack Kostel joined Johnson in double-digit points with 11 and 10, respectively. Kostel additionally notched a team-high five assists. 

West Alabama controlled the pace in the first half to lead UAH 36-18 after 20 minutes of play, as Johnson guided the Chargers with eight of his 29 points on the night.
 
UAH started off the second half on an 11-2 run in the first 3:48 of the frame to slim the UWA advantage to 38-31, and the Chargers would continue to cut into the Tigers lead to 44-40 at the under-12 media timeout.
 
The Chargers held a 63-59 lead with 1:43 to go after a successful layup by Williamson, but the Tigers tied the game at 63-63 on Shardarrion Allen’s bucket with six seconds remaining to force overtime.
 
The overtime period was tightly contested between the Chargers and Tigers, as UAH outscored UWA 6-4 in the frame for the 69-67 win.
 
Overall on Monday, UAH shot 42.1 percent (24-57) from the field and 29.2 percent (7-24) on three-pointers. West Alabama was limited to a 20.8 percent (5-24) mark from beyond the arc by the UAH defense.
 
The Chargers are back at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a GSC matchup against Lee.
