UAH Completes Four-Point Weekend with Victory over VSU in Home Finale

The University of Alabama in Huntsville women’s soccer team wrapped up its 2022 home slate with a 1-0 victory over Valdosta State at Charger Park on Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 4-6-5 (3-4-4 GSC), while VSU dips to 3-10-1 (2-9-0 GSC).
 
UAH is now unbeaten in six of its past seven matches.
 
The Chargers took the lead in the first half with a 29th-minute tally by Maialen Mera Torres, who sent in a deflected ball out of the box from 10 yards out.
 
Mera Torres’s goal was her fourth of the season, and she now leads the team in points with 10 as she also has two assists in 2022. She has also scored two of the Chargers four game-winning goals this season.
 
After taking the 1-0 lead into the break, UAH and Valdosta State went scoreless in the second half to complete the Chargers victory on Sunday.
 
Adriana Wright played the full time in goal for the Blue & White, notching four saves over 90 minutes. This was Wright’s second shutout of the season and sixth of her career.
 
UAH recorded four shots on goal, led by freshman Jayla Gillespie with two shots on target.
 
The Blue & White generated five corner kicks, while holding VSU scoreless in seven corner kick opportunities.
 
The Chargers hit the road to finish off the regular season with matchups next weekend at Shorter on Friday and Lee on Sunday.
