UAH Earns Pair of Wins at Miles on Tuesday

The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team made quick work of host Miles on Tuesday, winning 12-0 in five innings in the first game of the doubleheader before winning 13-2 in five innings in the nightcap. UAH improves to 24-14 with the victories, while Miles falls to 8-18-1.
 
The Chargers will be back in action this weekend at Charger Park, hosting West Georgia for a three-game series that starts with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
 
UAH 12, Miles 0
The Chargers pounded out 10 hits and drew five walks in the opening victory.
 
Shelby Booker went 3-for-3 in the contest with three runs and an RBI, while Kaylee Vaught had a pair of hits and scored twice. Each of Kiara Akles, Jada Henderson, Laura Harbin, and Gracie Green had a pair of RBI in the contest, and Eve Mallard also logged an RBI.
 
Vaught, Akles, Harbin, and Green all had a double, while Booker had two triples, and Henderson belted a home run.
 
The homer for Henderson is her first of her career, while Booker now has 11 career triples which ranks fifth all-time at UAH.
 
In the circle, Megan Shurtz picked up her 10th win of the season in tossing three innings of shutout ball while striking out four, and Maddie Tankersley tossed the final two innings, earning a strikeout and allowing just two hits.
 
UAH scored five times in the first to set the tone for the day, and the Chargers would follow that up with two in the second, one in the third, and four in the fourth to create the 12-0 final.
 
UAH 13, Miles 2
UAH picked up 11 hits in the nightcap and the Charger pitching staff held Miles to just two in the contest.
 
Nine different Chargers had a hit in the contest including Booker who went 2-for-4 with a homer, four runs, and three RBI, while Akles also had a pair of hits, scored twice, and drove in another run.
 
Alaina Hampton belted a pinch-hit, three-run homer, and each of Mallard, Harbin, Henderson, Sadie Thompson, and Green knocked in a run.
 
Hampton’s homer is her fourth of the year, and she now has 26 RBI.
 
Jessie Cole earned her first collegiate win in the circle as she worked around two hits, giving up two runs of which only one was earned while also striking out a pair, and Grace O’Berry did not permit a hit in facing the minimum in two innings of work.
 
The Chargers held a 2-1 lead after the first before tacking on three in the third, five in the fourth, and three more in the fifth.
