Vicente Rodriguez won the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men’s Golf Championship individual title on April 15, posting a final round score of three-under-par 69 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Alabama.
Rodriguez, who was third after two rounds, secured his first win for Alabama A&M by recording six birdies during the final round. He finished with a total score of two-under-par 214 over three rounds and held off Texas Southern’s Yashal Shah, who finished one under par. “I think what pushed me through today was being patient,” Rodriguez said. “I just wanted to take it one shot at a time. I didn’t really think about the others in contention, but about being present in the moment and not doubting myself.”
Earlier in the week, Rodriguez was selected as a member of the All-SWAC Postseason Second Team and ranked seventh in conference standings before his victory.
Alabama A&M head coach Devins Jackson was named Coach of the Year following the tournament. “I am very excited to receive such an honor,” Jackson said. “The real credit goes to these student-athletes and the work they do each time they hit the course. In our first team meeting this Fall. I shared with the team our goal is to get better one season at a time. We should wake up every day wanting to be better than we were yesterday.” Other notable performances from Alabama A&M included Samuel Boddie tying for twelfth place and Lukas Lange tying for eighteenth.
Alabama A&M finished sixth overall out of eight teams with a combined score of 33-over-par 897 across three rounds. Arkansas-Pine Bluff won the team championship with an overall score of 876.
The Bulldogs will compete next at The Underground at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club in Hampton, Georgia on April 27-28.
