WASHINGTON— On July 13, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Representative Dale W. Strong’s (AL-05) amendment during consideration of the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The amendment requires the Secretary of Defense to provide Congress with and execute a plan to transfer or donate unused border wall construction materials to U.S. southern border states that will use them for border wall construction.

“During my trip to the southern border, I saw miles of construction materials rusting on the ground. The Biden administration's decision to let these materials go to waste has cost the Department of Defense over three hundred million dollars since 2021. This is money down the drain,” said Representative Strong.

Senator Wicker (R-MS), Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), first championed putting a stop to this wasteful spending with the introduction of the “Finish It Act” (S. 1498).

“I'm thankful to partner with Senator Wicker to lead this effort on the House side. The Biden administration has chosen to ignore the crisis at the southern border, with no plan other than to keep spending one hundred and thirty thousand dollars a day to pay for protection and storage of unsured materials. This is a dangerous misuse of funds in a time where the threats to our national security are grave.”

The amendment was included in en bloc package five for House Floor consideration. The package was adopted by a voice vote (399-31).
