Today, a bicameral resolution was introduced by Representative Dale Strong (AL-05) to recognize the fourth anniversary of Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, being named the preferred location for the U.S. Space Command headquarters.
Representative Dale W. Strong emphasized that "Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, is the best possible location for U.S. Space Command." He cited two investigations that supported this conclusion and expressed hope that "President Trump and his incoming administration will return to the facts and focus on what is best for our national security."
The initial announcement on January 13, 2021, by the U.S. Air Force stated that Huntsville was "best suited to host the U.S. Space Command Headquarters based on factors related to mission, infrastructure capacity, community support and costs to the Department of Defense." This decision was part of an assessment involving six candidate locations.
Alabama Congressional Delegation members Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL-01), Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL-04), and Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL-06) cosponsored the House version of this resolution.
Representative Barry Moore remarked that "Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama was rightfully selected as the #1 location for Space Command through a thorough and merit-based process under President Trump’s administration." He committed to working with President Trump to relocate Space Command back to Huntsville.
Representative Robert Aderholt also noted that Redstone Arsenal's selection came from a "rigorous, merit-based process" and highlighted its expertise in space and defense.
Rep. Gary Palmer criticized the Biden Administration's decision-making regarding Space Command's placement in Colorado instead of Alabama: “Both the Department of Defense Inspector General and the Government Accountability office conducted reports confirming that... Redstone Arsenal is where Space Command belongs.”
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) leads the Senate version alongside Senator Katie Britt (R-AL). Tuberville asserted that "multiple military leaders and studies have made it abundantly clear that SPACECOM’s rightful home is in Huntsville," while Senator Britt affirmed that "Huntsville finished first in both the Air Force’s Evaluation Phase and Selection Phase."
The resolution commemorates USSPACECOM's re-establishment process led by USAF’s Strategic Basing Action. It recognizes compliance with law and policy in identifying Huntsville as USSPACECOM Headquarters' preferred location based on a 2022 Department of Defense Inspector General report.
Additionally, it commends President Trump's previous administration for their fact-based approach while condemning Biden Administration decisions seen as politically motivated against national security interests.
