City of Huntsville recreation centers close early due to extreme temperatures | City of Huntsville

City of Huntsville recreation centers closed early today and will not reopen until Tuesday, Dec. 27.  The City is assisting TVA and Huntsville Utilities in reducing high power demand during the extreme cold weather.

Due to dangerously low temperatures forecast throughout the Tennessee Valley Authority service area and the expected high electric demand expected on their system, TVA has initiated voluntary curtailment across their entire system.

The City encourages residents and business to also participate in voluntary curtailment to reduce consumption by turning off unneeded lights and by not using major appliances (ovens, washing machines, washers and dryers, etc.).
