Congressman Dale W. Strong of Alabama has voted in favor of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which mandates documentation of citizenship for voter registration and requires states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls.
"The Biden-Harris Administration’s disastrous border policies have allowed over 10 million illegal aliens to pour across our border. American citizens should be the only ones that determine our elections," stated Congressman Dale W. Strong.
While it is illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, the absence of a requirement for proof of citizenship during voter registration allows this law to be easily violated. Several states, including Alabama, have discovered non-citizens on their voter rolls. Alabama's Secretary of State, Wes Allen, identified 3,251 non-citizens registered to vote, with 742 located in North Alabama.
Earlier this month, an undocumented woman residing in North Alabama pled guilty to false claims of citizenship related to voting. She had used a fake identity to register and vote in both the 2016 and 2020 primary and general elections in Alabama.
"We must take steps to secure our elections and ensure that participation in our elections is reserved for American citizens and American citizens only. Requiring documentation of citizenship is an easy way to do that," said Strong.
